Sometimes restrictions to freedom allow even greater freedoms. For example, if you follow the actions necessary for working a stick-shift (avoid shifting with the clutch out), then you can travel easily to remote distances around the city. But if you are Free to just do whatever in the car (turn the radio up when shifting, instead of engaging the clutch) then you won't get very far.

Religion provides structure to peoples thoughts and perceptions, which can be restrictive to freedom. But it can also be liberating in another sense.
