el: re hedge ...

BTW: I really hope you can come back, el, after this horrible year. I'm sure you will, one way or the other. At least you have stable employment, correct? W/health benefits, etc.

I am using the term 'hedge' to mean buying some 'insurance' against my entire portfolio value in the event that the NAZ tanks. I don't know if you would call that 'speculation' or not.

I have no position in QQQ.

I have LTB&H positions in about 10 stocks, all tech except DIS and HD. Want to keep them.

Then, I have about six LTB&H MFs, mostly tech as well.

I just bought QQQ Jan 65 puts (rather, I have a limit order in -- hasn't filled yet).

Rationale is that if more earnings warnings are announced (I think there's a 90+% possibility of that), the NAZ (and my LTB&Hs with it) will tank -100, -200 points -- you know, what we see every other day this month <g>.

Hopefully I can sell the puts and make money. Adding to the capital.

I'm tired of looking at 50% losses this year. With no income from the investments (I don't mean income to spend; I mean to grow the principal in the portfolios).

No dividends, of course <g> (except for GE).

Okay ... that's my little plan.

Have a good day, el ...
