Charles, on Via and infrastructure, Dean Kent had this little blurb today on the KM133:

Note that this chipset specifically supports the mobile market
as well as the desktop market. Intel has reportedly been
shifting emphasis towards the high-end and notebook markets
because of the higher margins, and allowing AMD to gain
more share of the low and mid-range desktop markets. With
the Mustang core line of processors (Morgan and Palomino),
AMD will be able to finally offer solutions in the mobile
market that should compete very well against the Intel
offerings.

The ALi DDR chipset has mobile support too. I'm actually getting a little mellow on Via, most reports say the kt133 works pretty well. Maybe with demand slacking up AMD will get a little better support, but there's enough alternatives in the pipeline that the situation should improve in the coming months unless everybody screws up. The semi slump should somewhat help with Via too, as fab capacity frees up.

On the other hand, word that the Via integrated chip looks good compared to the 815 cuts the other way. Still, AMD seems to have plenty of opportunities looking forward, if execution on the low power front comes through.

Cheers, Dan.
