Pardon me for butting in. There is a major difference between now and the time when it looked like AMD was well ahead of Intel on the migration to 0.13-microns.

AMD anticipated being able to move to 0.13-microns using 248nm lasers and their current resist. It now appears that, at least for some layers, they will not be able to use 248nm lasers. This means AMD must get 193nm laser technology qualified and in place before making the transition to 0.13-microns. Because AMD has "wasted time" on attempting to get to 0.13-microns using only 248nm lasers, they are now behind on the transition.
