Last night, the guy across the road illuminated his Christmas lights for the first time this year. He does a marvellous job of putting lights on his shrubbery and evergreen trees. This year he did the bushes in white lights while using green and yellow on the trees. I can see the display from my kitchen window while I prepare evening food. I like looking at people's Christmas decorations. Granted, if the Olympics gave medals for tackiness, they would need to expand the podium, but there are also many superbly crafted displays too. Usually, as we approach Christmas, we take an evening to drive around and admire decorations we wouldn't see in our usual travels.
Unfortunately, I tire of the Christmas commercialization on TV, in the stores, and on the streets in downtown areas. And the music! I hate the tinny and annoying noise that passes for Christmas music in stores and Malls. I'd rather have silence than this. Remember Elvis singing "You aint nothin' but a reindeer": Well most stuff I hear is equally tasteless.
Did you know that to aid in survival, female reindeer retain their antlers over winter while males lose theirs? Yes! It helps them compete for scarce food.
Well, next time I see Santa, I want to sit on his lap and ask him why he gave his 'girl' reindeer masculine names.
