My house is also 50 years old and was built on an 18,000 sq ft lot. It was a typical CA ranch-type on a flat lot when it was built in 1950. I would put my lot size into the average category for houses built at the same time.

Why do you suppose the houses being built at the same time as yours in my valley are built on larger lots than yours was?

My hypothesis is that the narrowness of the SV peninsula was a significant factor in the development of small lots in that area.
