Hi Anand, SbH & Tim [& others who care to chime in :)]- with regard today action, SbH's observation of the spike upon the the release of Lewis & Clark *expedition* is correct, but I have differing interpretation. IMHO, while the mkt may still react to every ebb and flow of the political tide with quick burst of energy, I cannot see NSM, INTC, MOT etc etc bucking the bad news are tied to the political event. In fact, LSI and XLNX were the precursor. That leads me to believe that even if there are quick spikes [up & down,] the market has begun to turn. As you know, unlike most of the esteemed regulars here, I am not a trader. Not that I don't want to :), but I do have a day job. Besides, I don't have the tools --- or the knowledge --- to do it. But I ve digressed! My point is that even if there is a gap down on Monday, I wonder if it will decimate the mkt for a long duration. I could be wrong though.
In all honesty, Tim, I do share your concern about VP Gore's rhetoric during the regulation campaign season. However, chances are neither he nor Gov Bush will be able to go whole hog with their respective campaign *promises* b/c of the lack of mandate. At this point, I do accept the conventional wisdom that VP Gore is likely to draw more partisan fire. Indeed, he is no Clinton. Look at what happened to President Clinton. Vendetta may be a strong word, but $40MM of Starr War and subsequent impeachment was such a waste of taxpayer's money. Now people like former Rep Gogan are paying for it. I don't know if Gore can withstand attacks like that though. However, for the sake of the whole nation, these people'd better stop playing with fire and do what they were hired to do, namely to govern, no more and no less.
Tim, I respect your insight and it is entirely possible that we could be mired in a constitutional crisis, whatever it means. However, I think the worst is that 50% of the people won't be happy <G>! I think the USSC will have its say, then FL Legislature and US House.
Fortune comes and goes, I ve lived this long without it, maybe I can get by. But how often do I ve a chance to tell people from other countries that I am proud of this country whose pride goes beyond stock market convenience. For better or for worse, both VP Gore and Gov Bush represent 50% of the voters, ask them to fight for another month may not be too much to ask.
But enough of the ideation. We will know soon enough if Monday is another *buying opportunity* <SG>!
best, Bosco |
