Since my investment in Softbank seems to have dwindled to a relatively minor amount, I thought I would review the situation before dumping the remainer but I won't even be treated to a tax loss since I am now about even.

It is interesting to note that Softbank's investment in 23 publicly traded companies totals $39.31/Softbank share. Not far from the week's closing price of $50 even. This does not reflect much value for the shares held in hundreds of companies that are not publicly traded. 66% of that $39.31 is actually just the two Yahoo holdings, Yahoo Japan plus Yahoo US. Of course, there are many aspects to valuing a company like Softbank, but it is worth looking at these items in my opinion. The data is spelled out at:

softbank.co.jp (look at share data)

Is there anything to be made of this sort of data? Can Forbes's "Man of the Year" stage a comeback anytime soon? I have the feeling that there is still a lot of potential downside in spite of the Softbank stockholdings. I suppose 2001 will tell.

BTW, the Crash of 2001 seems to have started in 2000, perhaps early 2000.
