Bosco,
I didn't pay attention to the US election campaign, so I can't really tell what both men were like back then. I have seen how they both behaved in the last 4 weeks though, and if either were the CEO of any company, I'd not only sell the shares, I'd consider buying puts.
Here's Bush's main weakness. He does not appear to lead, deferring all decisions to Cheney and others. Reagan may have been successful doing the same, but Reagan had the charisma to pull it off and won the hearts of the people doing that. Bush has very little charisma, and I suspect he has little grasp of the facts either. I also saw that when facing stress, he withdraws to his ranch.
Here's Gore's main weakness. His ambition is blinding and self-serving. Let's just ignore the class warfare rhetoric he engaged in the past. I'd like to draw attention to two of Gore's observations in the last 4 wks.
A. poorer working class precincts had cheaper counting machines than richer precincts, hence the machines counted wrong. This was not true --- there was no correlation between income or party leanings of precincts with types of counting machines. But this is typical of the 'class-warfare' rhetoric that demagogue-wannabes always engage in. And Gore didn't have the charisma to pull it off either. :)
B. Seminole county election officials discarded DEM ballot applications with errors and gave access to the GOP applications with errors. This is clearly not true --- the DEM applications went from DEM->voters->DEM->election office while the GOP ballot applications went from GOP->voters->electionOffice and all DEM applications did not have the computer printing problem.
In summary, Bush has little grasp of the facts, but Gore has too much grasp of too many facts --- even facts that are not facts.
Bush's keyword : dull Gore's keyword : smarmy
While on principle I try to avoid lawyers and politics as much as possible, I have always had a deep dislike for hypocrisy of anykind, and there is just way too much going on in Florida now.
