An op-ed article in NYT today appears to show that the two rulings regarding the absentee ballots impinged upon US law in the EXACT same manner the Supreme Court expressed grave concerns about earlier in the week. Yes I read that. Here's the link: nytimes.com Of course the key question in my mind that differentiates those cases from the main event was that there was really no good remedy available. Throwing out all the absentee ballots is extreme. Throwing out the same number of ballots as were determined to be illegal, assuming voters in the "illegal" ballots voted in the same proportion as all absentee ballots, would be a lesser remedy I've not seen suggested that would still favor Gore. My guess is that the judges' rulings on these two cases will be left undisturbed. Peter
