Lewis can extend that deadline if he has to. Lewis knows the real drop-dead date is Monday. Of course some counties won't finish even by then. The main effect of the ruling is to get the last 9000 ballots examined, while simply accepting as gospel all the results, even partial, from the canvassing boards. At least they gave Bush the chance to get as many undervotes examined in Bush-leaning counties as possible. The FL SC and the process in FL to date has repeatedly affirmed the notion that selective counts can be legally added to the total. That may not seem fair, and may not be legal, but that's the game the Dems have been playing and that's the game everyone has to play now thanks to the FL SC.

BTW I think Lewis will do the best job he can under the circumstances. To the extent possible, I think both sides will get a fair shake from him.
