Killer Applications

I read an article about digital TV. It says:

...

You can receive HDTV today from the major networks using roof-top antenna, just as you receive regular channels. DirectTV and EchoStar services, which are satellite based, also send out programs in HDTV. Regarding cable companies, a small number of them do transmit the broadcast networks in digital format today. But most don't because they say they lack the necessary bandwidth in their cable systems."

...

Now the question is if HTDV becomes more popular and cable companies decide to revamp (or simply just do it), what companies will benefit the most?

Harmonic does both satellite and cable. Is it the one that will benefit the most? If not, who will? How about Antec (ANTC)?

Current broadband networks need two elements to start the real fly:

1. providing adequant bandwidth at the edge (the last mile)

2. Killer applications.

Harmonic offers the first. Video-on-demand (VOD)/Streaming media and videoconference are also attractive. However, when HDTV set becomes less expensive and more contents are broadcast by the networks, I think HDTV is the true killer application.

Need advise from the insiders?

Many thanks in advance.
