Flapjack,
You may be right, but just wait. Should Al Gore be installed as the next President due to the lawsuits that have been filed, you will see a racial and class division throughout this country which will never be healed.
I have seen a few posts on here about people no longer wanting to give to charitable causes because if what they have read about this election, in terms of minority groups voting Democratic in historically large proportions and actions such as transporting homeless folks to cast absebtee ballots. Speaking for responsible, gainfully-employed Gen-X'ers, I would think that this sentiment is a lot larger than anyone would care to believe.
As a white male, it amazes me how Al Gore has stated how ballots were thrown into the garbage, yet these allegations were never introduced into court, and how Jesse Jackson and the NAACP keep saying how blacks were intimidated and denied their ability to vote. If even one fair Republican or any Democrat saw a ballot being thrown away, it would have been brought up and publicized right away. The person who threw a ballot away who be crucified. If any person of any color tried to deny anyone the ability to vote through intimidation or illegal activities, they would be immediately arrested and sued like you wouldn't believe. Who in their right mind would do this, in an age where information and lawsuits flow so freely? It is imcomprehensible.
If Gore had won the election, would we have heard about these things? How come this has not happened in every election, in almost every state, before?
These are the things that would evoke anger, FP. We used to have frequent abortion clinic shootings and ethnic church burnings even after the advent of the PC movement. Change of any kind makes people uncomfortable. Had Gore won the election without legal challenges, you would not see very much anger, just disappointment. If Gore now wins the election, I believe you will see a misplaced rage that will change this country forever.
Whomever gets in, I certainly hope they get some campaign and election reforms in. It all has to stop being about money. While Nader is a freak, at least he is not bought and paid for. While it can never be pure, the whole political system needs a clensing. Perhaps these types of events I envision occurring in the next few years, based on this racial divide, class warfare, and political corrpution that has enveloped the country, while terrible, will force such changes. It's the only way out.
I am certainly glad I live in the semi-rural West. I won't have to deal with the consequences of all this with the exception of my federal tax bill. It could be a lot worse. |
