<<Interestingly enough, the Canada Goose, a bird so endangered in the early 1950s that extinction was a real possibility, has not only avoided that dreadful fate, but has multiplied to numbers sufficient to become a pest in many areas. >>

The Canada Goose wasn't that bad off, but the Giant Canada Goose was thought extinct. A few were found in Fulton County, Illinois and were protected. Non migratory. Now they're everywhere and attract the migrators.

The real problem is the Snow Geese. They have multiplied to where the tundra is in danger. Just about all restrictions on hunting them have been dropped and the numbers keep growing.
