Of course he's right, he's expressing a politically correct Republican view. Anybody who disagrees is an "ultra leftwing extremist", as Elmer would say. Who cares about voter intent?

I doubt if anybody remembers, but when Rehnquist was sent up as Chief Justice, there was testimony that as a youthful party hack, he'd helped out in blocking blacks at the polls in Arizona. Asked about it at his confirmation hearings, he couldn't recall, of course. Just like Clarence Thomas had never given a thought to Roe v. Wade. And to think that either of those two could possibly have lied under oath, well, that would be an ultra leftwing extremist thought too. Just like it's an ultra leftwing extremist thought to wonder about those Republican congressional staffers storming the Broward courthouse.
