Dan--No, there is no reason in the world that the FL legislature couldn't--with Bush and Gore's support--have passed a law enabling a manual recount of all the counties--Republican and Democrat alike. How is that unreasonable? If we had done that, this whole mess would be over now. But you know what we're gonna get--the conservative Supreme Court, which normally favors state sovereignty, just reversed course and--incredibly!--ruled that recount must stop, now! Why in the world wouldn't they let the recount proceed, and if it was somehow invalid, then later render the new numbers moot??? As it is now, even if they allow the recount to proceed later, the clock will run out--there's fairness for you!!!

What Bush will get, by refusing Gore's completely fair offer, will be the presidency, alright, but of a bitterly divided country. Seems like a completely pyrrhic victory to me...
