Having been around for a while, I do recognize that many closed end funds can trade at a very large discount to net asset value in a real bear market. I suggest that Softbank is already at a discount from their true net asset value but the assets are not readily visible at this time. If there ever is an upturn in the fortunes of any of the internet stocks, Softbank will be in a position to benefit. The problem is that Softbank is too diversified and has too many irons in the fire. This results in any single successful investment being buried in the totality of the many mediocre investments. Thus, we have a limited upside for the forseeable future. So Softbank has become a so-so investment at best. Still, I do not think that the downside is very risky at current levels. I probably will lighten up at opportune times, but I do not feel an urgent need to do so.
