Bosco,
I would be a fool to serve on any BoD that would have me as a D. (vbg)
More seriously, this is my alter ego to relax from the stress of playing around with a chunk of my life savings on something as dangerous as the stock market (and in a bear mkt to boot), and... enough said.
Well, either Bush or Gore could have redeeming traits, and judging them based on the past 4 weeks may be unfair, but you have to admit, this past 4 wks, neither men have placed the well-being of their country above their own self-interest. Invisible Hand at work? Maybe.
If I hear Bush's team talk about stopping counting because of principles and rule of law, or Gore talk about counting all the votes to protect the rights of the voters again, I might really choke.
Bush stops the count not because of principles or any altruistic motives. He wants to be president. Pure and Simple.
Gore wants to 'count' (I use the term loosely here) all the votes not because of principles or any wish to protect voter's rights. He wants to be president. Pure and Simple.
If only either men would just step out and say : "I want to be President of the US because it is the greatest honor that I can think of. If I can I will serve this country the best way I know how, and I will do anything to earn that responsibility" THAT is the speech that either could have made, not this hiding behind some altruistic good-of-the people motive, not by looking teary-eyed in front of cameras, or professing their love for democracy, or pretending that the race is over, or that the other side are evil thieves in the night. Just be honest for god's sake.
People usually respect honesty, not hypocrisy.
- slowly stepping off the soap box, our mysterious character dusts the stand with his handkerchief, wipes a tear and walks off into the sunset.
