one small modification to your opinion:

how about doing 10 consecutive machine recounts ?!?!?!?
then averaging the 10 different results


i have heard that once the ballots are run through the machines SIX times the ballots are stabilized. (yes some chads would fall out - but they are most likely ones that should fall out - i kinda doubt that a never punched chad would go anywhere)

so instead of averaging,
run the ballots enough times to stabilize them
and take the LAST count, not the average

and there is enough time to do this
but not enough wisdom
