To be perfectly honest, Boies is not on my favorites list.
One thing for sure, the Repubs had the far superior legal team, irrespective of what their prior ratings were by comparison.

Then again, I went for the Union, but I thought US Grant wasn't fit to shine RE Lee's boots. In fact, if Lee had decided to stay with the Union rather than VA, there never would have been a Battle of Gettysburg. The South would have been crushed well before 1863 and well to the south of PA. That's how much expertise Lee brought to the war. JMHO, not based on professional knowledge.
