RE: Bandwidth demands

I don't think the bandwidth demands will come from the home consumer segment. All the heavy duty internet users already have DSL or Cable if it's available in their area.

I believe the push for bandwidth is the migration of client server applications to browser based applications. All of the large "old" economy companies have many departments maintaining legacy client server stuff that will be re-written in Java/ASP or whatever to make it browser based so they can distribute it easily across all branch offices internationally. These apps are going to eat up a lot of bandwidth because they're going to have a lot of I/O and be distributed far and wide.

My current client has an application now where the browser "clients" in London are already complaining about the slow performance and they're going to have to pay for more bandwidth.

I believe in 5 years most corporate in house development of specialized custom applications will be done as brower based and will be distributed worldwide and that's going to fuel an insatiable demand for bandwidth.
