Wouldn't the completely objective thing to do is let the machine count stand. Fairness across the whole state - everyone was counted by the same standard. Even if the machine missed valid votes. They may have missed Bush or Gore votes equally. No politics involved just the cold hard facts of a machine. Thats objectively.
