Hi Tom, not really thinking about a short squeeze, just simply the phenomenon of natural profit taking by those with short positions.

If it turns into a squeeze, great ! Otherwise, I just think of short interest as buying that just hasn't happened yet -- but someday will happen. EGGS is a good example -- how much further down before some of the shorts decide to take some profits and cover ?

From my observations from previous years, a lot of short covering occurs starting when the settlement date crosses into the New Year. Presumably at that point, tax loss selling has finished, and theoretically, the shorts have 15 months to pay taxes on their gains.
