Totally agree that this whole thing has been great for the country. Has motivated people to get involved. That is a total plus...

As far as standards...the standard should be that if the chad is not totally punched out it does NOT count. Really quite simple.
No room for error there.
No subjective opinions.
No room for someone over handling a ballot and causing a different outcome.

Peter, recounting of any kind changes the outcome in ways that can not be controlled. It is not right for subjective judgements to determine a voter's intent...or to handle the ballots so many times that the risk of spoiling is extremely high.

This whole issue is classic Democratic philosophy. We will never know if the Republicans would have pulled the same stunt, but I find it rather amusing that once again that when an issue to boiled down to personal responsibility...the Democrats always come up for a reason to shift it to the government and away from the individual...
The poll helpers were unhelpful.
The ballot was confusing.
The ballot was hard to punch.
There were roadblocks on way to the ballot place.
Blah, blah, blah.

Damn it...if you can't get your act together enough to get to the polling place and make sure your vote is being processed properly then that is just to damn bad. The polling place is one of the last public institutions that isn't covered in government materalism. What is, is. Well, ok, maybe the IRS is pretty tough.

If the problem is with the balloting process, then fix the machines for next time. But don't mess with the situation after the fact.
