Cobalt, to help you save another argument of who gets to be dialed in, buy a router and go with a cable modem. You can cut the second phone line, so it's not much more per month. I went with a linksys router which probably only goes for about $100 now. It has a built in firewall and will handle up to 4 computers via ethernet cables, which are also dirt cheap now. The router does it's own DHCP, so your provider can never figure out what's going on. To the outside world, it looks as if the router is a computer doing everything itself. It has been my experience that broadband is extremely insecure. Much depends on the provider, but most are so obsessed with building out their network and getting people hooked up that security is no big deal. My provider seems to handle outside attacks, but within my local area you can do whatever the hell you want. Particularly within my local-local loop. It's basically anarchy. At least this seems to be the way I view it based on who I see trying to spoof me. Pity those fools running back orifice that think they are hackers and are too dumb to figure out what they installed... ho ho ho
