New Chairman for AngloGold

Date: Sunday, December 10, 2000

Nicky Oppenheimer has stepped down as the chairman of AngloGold Limited. Bobby Godsell, the current chief executive, will assume the joint role of chairman and chief executive officer. Russell Edey, a non-executive director of AngloGold since its restructuring, has been elected deputy chairman.
Oppenheimer said: “It is with regret that, in the light of my responsibilities elsewhere, I step down as chairman. In electing Bobby as chairman, the Board has affirmed its support for the strategy developed by the company’s management team, and its confidence in the ability of the team to implement this strategy timeously and effectively. Russell Edey, who already chairs the Board’s Remuneration and Investment committees will, with Bobby, ensure that the Board continues to maintain high standards of corporate governance. I am confident that AngloGold will keep its position as the gold equity of choice on a global basis.”

Godsell commented: “AngloGold’s management team will continue to focus attention on the company’s earnings profile, managing costs and ensuring strong shareholder returns, including a healthy dividend.”
