Charter Communications Selects Nortel Networks and ANTEC for IP Cable Field Trial; Trial to Test IP Over Cable Carrier-Grade Telephony and High-Speed Data Services


ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 11, 2000--Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:CHTR), today announced an agreement with Nortel Networks(1) and ANTEC to conduct an end-to-end IP over cable telephony field trial in St. Louis. The trial will use carrier-grade cable equipment from Nortel Networks Succession(1) portfolio and Arris Interactive, a joint venture between Nortel Networks and ANTEC.

John Pietri, Charter's Senior Vice President of Engineering, said the integrated voice and data services trial will involve up to 500 residents in the St. Louis area. "This effort involving Nortel Networks, Arris Interactive and ANTEC, will provide the technological and operational expertise necessary for Charter to deploy IP telephony," said Mr. Pietri.

"We're pleased to work with Charter as they evaluate a carrier-grade end-to-end IP telephony solution," said Dan Middleton, vice president Local Internet, Nortel Networks. "This field trial will showcase the reliability, robustness and performance of Nortel Networks Succession cable network, which will position Charter to deliver next generation IP services."
