I have witnessed bear markets. 1973-74, 1981-82, 1990, 1994. 2000. Bear markets have changed. Their duration seem to be much shorter, unless we are heading for the mother of all bear market, recession, depression, etc. That does not seem to be in the cards. The NAS has given back 100% of the spectacular gain from Oct 99 to Nov 2000. I believe 50% was the old standard.
Earnings are down, but the reaction to INTC, XLNX etc last week seems to indicates that these stocks, and sectors are washed out, one of the requirements for a bottom.
But you may well be right, my wizened and skeptical friend. The amount of optimism that flows back into the market these few days is scary. And multi-100 points swings based on the latest court ruling is scary. stay tuned. larry
