Some clarity on the ATHM backbone speed thingy. ATHM runs a "dual OC48" backbone. That means capacity for 5Gb/sec. You are correct about the thinning out. The end user experience is a function of how well the provider manages the capacity and not of just absolute capacity. If RR upgraded to a T3 before congestion happened then you wouldn't know the difference.

This capacity discussion does raise an interesting point that doesn't get enough play on this thread. ATHM has a backbone network. RR does not. They may have connections here and there but they don't have the ability to manage the experience. They just drop you onto the Internet.
