Recounts were done in those states to the satisfaction of the people involved.

The only reason to suggest that you need to recount the whole country is to erect an illogical barrier to the activities in Florida. We can continue to differ on whether a count of the undervotes rejected by machines is a proper count. But suggesting that a recount of the entire country is necessary if you recount Florida is absurd.

I agree. The presidential election has become very like a religious war. And the bitter divisions will last for a long time, just as is the case in a religious war.

A good example of how to handle a close election, is the US Senate contest between Sen Gorton and challenger Cantwell. Both agreed to an amicable procedure without the intense bitterness.
