Tom, listened to some of proceedings via tape of the Sup Ct hearing...

I'm thinking "remand" with some guidance as to what "standards" to apply. Justice O'Connor suggested that the standard to be applied would be found in the very instructions given to the voters. The problem with that standard, for Gore anyway, is that most of the undervotes would likely be found to be "no-votes." What's a little disturbing to me is that I am not convinced the high Court really has jdn of this dispute. One thing is for sure: had the recount gone forward and Bush maintained his lead, the issue would be moot. Furthermore, if the latter had transpired, it would be easier for the country to move forward. Just can't believe the high Court wants to be the final arbiter here. I think they'll find a way to kick it back to the Florida Supreme Court.
