You must have had a good high school, something that is lacking in large with todays America, a lot of curriculum has to be developed as remedial to high school education, a lot of this is basics, math, reading etc., though I find the lack of adequate study in government to be very disturbing. A lot of the problems in this election stem from that, all too many voters, particularly first time voters, didn't have a clue HOW to vote much less what issues are involved. Noam Chomsky wrote about the importance of the individual in governmental process, only an individual can change or improve the system when needed or reinforce that which works and is good. However, one cannot become responsible for something that is not known. If I were to get into a discussion with someone about the role of Federal Government and the role of a state with regards to the rights of an individual as laid out in the constitution and the Bill of Rights I would only really be able to do so in reality with someone who has read and understood those documents, yet there is such a small percentage that have done so. Our Founding Fathers were quite wise to create the Electoral College, it's a sad fact but a well thought out one. We are in the 3rd millenium and we still do not have a large majority of the people of this country that get the idea that we are individuals who are responsible, each one, for how this country forms develops and prospers, hence we end up with welfare and other forms socialism, a total disregard of the concepts of individual freedom, entire sections of our country are dependant on the government whereas the truth is quite opposite though not apparent. Our educational system can be found at fault for a lot of this but each individual American must share the burden of guilt, one must be willing to be educated correctly, each must demand it, we pay for it dearly, I expect better results. Today will decide what kind of opportunity we have to do so, I believe that we will not have the candidate that would barrel us down the road of socialism, that we will have a president that will give us more opportunity to ease up the control of the federal government and put more responsibility on each of us as it should be. And hopefully this election will wake up a large number of Americans to the fact that they need to know what is going on in our country. |
