My back of the envelope summary -

1. To the best of my knowledge, all of the vote numbers publicized so far do not include the military absentee ballots which have been ordered to be included in all 67 counties in a Federal Court ruling as of late last week.

2. It is clear that the US SC is completely opposed to the fact that different standards were applied in different counties even for the punch card ballots. Since Broward county 'recovered' 26% of the undervotes while Palm Beach County only 'recovered' 4%. I have no doubt whatever that any potential recount attempted under a detailed uniform standard (close to the Palm Beach one) and executed by one or more non-partisan judges would cut the Gore totals by 500 or so votes in Broward County alone. (This assumes that dimples are the main difference between the counties).

3. From the above, and even assuming that all partially punctured holes would be counted, I would have a high expectation that a full state recount would result in a moderate Bush win, assuming that the present numbers have any relationship to reality at all.

4. So, from my completely impartial point of view, we already have the probable correct result, so the re-count is unnecessary from the point of fact. -g-
