I can all too well remember the Christmas light wired in a serial circuit, and when one bulb failed, the whole string went dark. Then the routine of changing each bulb in turn until the trouble was located.

Some of my fondest memories were of father losing his cool, often because mother wouldn't discard expired bulbs, and he'd be using a burnt bulb as his tester.

I don't know if they're still available, but I'd stare at the tree and those bulbs with the liquid that would bubble from the heat. The bulbs blown and painted as Santa, cottages, birds, and stars were special too. This year, I saw a tree decorated with motorized ornaments. I would've loved a tree like this as a child. I think most were carousel horses going up and down.

Cheers, PW.
