ot: I think you mean Girardia (or maybe I am mis-spelling it). Nasty stuff. I got it drinking from a crystal clear spring on the Appalachian trail a few years back. My only advice to anyone taking a long hike and planning to drink directly from a water source is: Take LOTS of toilet paper! It is snowing "like a mutha" outside here in Detroit. Had to drive 4 miles this afternoon. I kid you not, I could have walked it and taken 20 minutes less time to do it. Fastest speed was pulling out of the driveway which, on returning home, I could not get up with a front wheel drive car. Ended up having to shovel it to get up it.
