<<My memory is fine. He did not destroy the tapes, and I know of no particular occasion where he used that line ("destroy the evidence").......>>

Can't speak for my memory but I think the tapes were erased,
not destroyed. They were subpoened, sent to experts and the minute magnetic impressions were reconstructed and used in evidence against President Nixon. Can't remember all about that time in history but with all his warts Nixon was a more moral man than the one inhabiting the White House at present. Actually, the media of the time prosecuted Nixon as he was well disliked by them. Conversely, the present of the Presidency has been saved by them, over and over.
I assume it has never occurred to Clinton the millions of dollars he is wasting of taxpayer money flying around the world with his daughter could bring have brought a great deal of cheer to the starving citizens of Washington, DC. This is what Jesse Jackson should have taken on instead of fomenting racial divisiveness in Florida.
I believe Mr. Bush will restore morality and sense of family to the White House and heal the country's separation wrought by Al Gore in his insane drive to be elected. When he found he could not steal sufficient votes in the hand recount his agents reverted to stealing legally cast votes for Bush. His wholesale attempt to disenfranchise innocent citizens and our serviceman overseas is beyond contempt. This man should be ashamed of himself. His actions will haunt him for the rest of his life.
