Eddieww, a creditor nation such as the US in the 20s or Japan in the 80s has the ability to lower rates to near zero but now the US is very dependent on foreign capital so attempts to inflate away our debts to foreigners may precipitate a severe decline in the value of the dollar causing price inflation for imports and perhaps higher interest rates for a while until debt deflation takes hold.
