Report on Lack of Audio Problem:

I ran the system file checker and no problem files were identified.

So then I opened the box and jiggled the sound card (it's a DCS S819 PCI by the way).... The equivalent of hitting a malfunctioning device with a hammer!

No change. Next I started poking around, figuratively speaking, and tried "install new hardware" and lo and behold, my comp indicated that there was new hardware.

So the I used the soundcard CD to setup and things were chugging along and it indicated files needed for a joystick which I don't have but I kept going. And when I was finished it worked in; Firetalk at least.

Now its a couple of hours later and I'm getting the same system message upon reboot that started all this, namely: Audio output failed. May be in use by another application or not installed.

Your thoughts please before I slit my throat!

Thanks,
Eagle
