Agree on Bush having some problems in implementing his proposals. All were contingent on having a surplus and the good times continuing. With a contracting economy and the fake surplus slipping away, he's faced with the probability of raising taxes or cutting programs. Not a happy proposal either way. Most people will remember his old man's "read my lips" fiasco. As to half the voting public not wanting his platform, I must point out again that half the voting public did not vote and don't give a crap either way. So were down to a quarter of the voting public not supporting him. As per the norm, Americans will bitch and moan and then settle in for whichever idiot is currently in charge. It again points to the political brilliance of Bill Clinton, he ran GWB Sr. into the hills on the mantra of "it's the economy stupid" and now is about to drop a stinking load of bad economy into GWB Jr's lap who will then look as inept as his old man. The Democrats will sit back and say "we told you so, remember how good you had it under Clinton". GWB Jr. will try to blame Clinton, but you know how much we hate a crybaby and after all, it was a Republican congress. You would think by now the Bush's would want to stay clear of Clinton. I think in 4 years GWB will have to sneak out of DC in the dead of night to avoid the hecklers. You've got to feel sorry for the poor bastard that becomes the keeper of this flickering flame.
