GARMIN Enters into License Agreement with QUALCOMM Inc.
OLATHE, Kan. -- GARMIN Corporation, a leading manufacturer of navigation and communication electronics, is pleased to announce a license agreement with QUALCOMM Inc. of San Diego, Calif. Specifically, GARMIN has licensed QUALCOMM's Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology. QUALCOMM pioneered this digital technology to provide crystal clear voice quality in wireless communications products and services.
"The license agreement with QUALCOMM demonstrates GARMIN's commitment to the design, development and manufacture of communication and navigation products incorporating CDMA technology," said Gary Kelley, director of marketing, GARMIN. "We want our customers to have access to the best technology available and we feel by integrating CDMA into our future products, we will succeed in accomplishing this."
GARMIN is no stranger to the world of wireless communications. In 1999, it became the first company to offer a combination Global Positioning System (GPS) and cellular telephone with the introduction of the NavTalkTM. GARMIN followed up this remarkable innovation in 2000 by becoming the first company to bring a cellular telephone to the cockpit with the debut of the NavTalk PilotTM. This telephone uses AirCellTM cellular frequency technology to enable general aviation pilots to place and receive calls while flying.
