To Warp and Ya'all in dat Silicon Valley, I lived off Highway 9 between the Fremont High School (which I graduated from in 63) and the El Camino Real in 55 and 56 when it was a 2 lane road and nothing but orchards, then again in 59 to 66. I think the 880 your referring to run's in front of the state mental hospital in Milpitas (which was the arm pit of the Santa Clara Valley pre Silicon Valley)and was also a 2 lane road at the time.
Houston is almost as bad as where your are, Austin is blowing up and the traffic is becoming more than a pain in the ars, but the area is nice. San Antonio is also nice, but the traffic is also getting worse by the day. Your best bet is to work at home and you'll have it made. Kerville is great, ask Big Dog, he lives in that area and it's about an hour north of San Antonio. You might want to try Marfa, I here there isn't much traffic out there and it's the sail plane capitol of Texas.
Take Care
Steve
