Glenn,
I think they believed early on that the Internet would change business. It has. I think they got drunk on the early success and as the warning signs began to manifest themselves, they refused to believe the party could end. In failing to call the top and reiterating buys all the way into oblivion, they proved that they were merely functioning as PR shills for their underwriting departments - Chinese wall was full of holes at the bottom. What a story.
