I agree they didn't feel comfortable with that. Boise argument was that there is no equal treatment across the state (or for that matter the nation) because of the differing voting systems. For instance punch cards produce five times as many undervotes as optical readers, so does someone who votes in a county with punch cards have equal treatment? Boise suggested that the manual recount just brings the punch card folks up to the norm. There was a good article in today's WSJ about the partisanship of the Supreme Court (page A1, right hand column). Doesn't look good for Gore. A majority of the Justices have a very good personal reason to want a Republican President. It would have been interesting if the Florida Supreme's had agreed to hear the Seminole case, sending the Supreme's a message that they could still determine the end game. Whatever happens, I think we'll see an end to this this week. Deja Vu, I've said that before... John
