My Dad's Chief Parenting Technique When Confronted By an Hysterical Daughter: He would say, "Let's talk about it." and fix us "hot toddies" (mine was hot water, lemon juice and sugar, I think his was a leeeetle different) then we would sit in his giant recliner and he'd let me cry. He seldom gave advice- except to quote Mark Twain which wasn't really always very good advice for a teenager.
