Hi, Nemer! "Sweet Jesus," as you say,
... how have you survived with any remotely liberal attitudes in NE Texas?
I dated a man originally from Paris, TX who fled to Dallas/Ft. Worth as soon as he could get out via college education/employment.
He told me that in the late 40s, early to mid-50s that black people were regularly being lynched, and that there were some very public murders of blacks tied with rope behind vehicles and drug through the main street, I believe he said. Over and over again, to the cheers of bystanders, until they died.
You know anything about that?
Also, he told me that as recently as the early 60s, Paris, TX proudly displayed chamber-of-commerce-style banners over the streets leading into the place that said, "Welcome to Paris, Texas ... the whitest county in Texas" ... or something to that effect ...
Boasting about having no minorites in residence there.
It's bothered me ever since.
Comments? As you're apparently a long-term inhabitant or native of the area?
TIA,
