I think we are in for a ride. Here is what I think may happen:
Thought A:
US Supreme court has not ruled because they are going to rule in Bushes favor. They may already be thinking of what I am thinking of in item B and want to include that issue,so they are waiting for the stuff to hit the fan. It takes longer to write and iron clad ruling. A quick ruling would have been in favor of Gore.

Thought B:
FL Supreme overturns absentee ballots ruling on spite.
Bush takes that to US Supreme
US Supreme court then has to deal with both issues.

Thought C:
We all now hate chads, hanging, dimpled, pimpled and swinging.
