When I'm asked to stay late to help get the next shift rolling ... or when I have to work late because of scheduling problems (i.e., I am assigned 1.5 jobs instead of one job to cover for someone who called in sick or who quit), I'll put down for OT, and rightfully so. Otherwise, I don't put down for OT if I have to stay a little longer than 8 hours to get my work done. I've worked at this place for 20.5 years now and have never once had any of my OT questioned. I've never had a guilty conscience about any of this. Never.
