Actually the standard is "where the intent of the voter is *clear*". The law also goes further and states that in cases where the intent of the voter cannot be determined the vote is not to be counted. The word "clear" is extremely important here and, coupled with the prohibition against counting votes where intent cannot be determined, sets a standard that quite obviously precludes the sort of subjective "divination" (dimpled chads, etc.) that was performed in Broward. Again, I will post a link to my initial argument on this. Again I will also assert that the Gore folks have claimed the right to far more subjectivity than the Florida law actually allows; hence, the recounting has been tainted. Bush supporters will not accept (and shouldn't) any recount that doesn't have objective, consistent standards.
