Paul,

In regard to your comment on taxes, I feel that I should comment. While I have problems with our fiscal policy, I wouldn't say that the government looks at taxes as a way of redistributing wealth. Significant portions of our taxes go to Defense, Law Enforcement, and Interest payments. The recipients of much of this are, indeed, voters, but they are being paid for their work or capital.

The tax system does try not to overburden those who earn less. The idea of this is that someone who earns $20 thousand cannot afford to pay 35 percent of this income as taxes (they would only be left with $13,000 to live on) while someone making $500,000 can afford to pay 40 percent.

As I said, I am not entirely happy with the fiscal policies of the democrats or republicans (democrats spend to much and republicans seem to think no taxes are necessary).

I think we are all unhappy with what our tax system does.

Larry
