| That doesn't make any sense at all. Republicans oppose funding adequate to maintain, let alone improve, the quality of our schools. Republicans support anti-public education initiatives such as 'school voucher' programs which would siphon off the meager monies currently available for public education, and further insure the monied class has no personal stake in the quality of public education. The attitude is pretty perilously close to, I've got mine, and those aren't my kids, and who cares? Who cares that those voters in Florida got disenfranchised? Bush is our president, 'get used to it'- who cares if the election is fair? Who cares if some children we don't know in a rural area or in the inner city don't have heat, or food, or feel safe at school? You get what you pay for, but Republicans have said time and time again that when it comes to improving our schools, money isn't the answer. But hypocritically, those same people are spending thousands of dollars a month to insure their own children are getting a safe and superior education- by sending them to private schools. Here in L.A., that's the way it is, and if you can't afford to send your kid to a private school, then God help you. |
